Air ducts are greatly responsible for keeping the air you breathe clean and fresh. Air ducts often gather a lot of particles while distributing air throughout your home. You can only remove such objects and particles by regularly cleaning your air ducts. Most of the dirt in air ducts often adheres to the duct surfaces.
What can I find in my air ducts?
Molds
Molds are very common organisms that can grow inside your air ducts especially if you don’t clean then and leave them to be moist. You should also note that not all spots are molds. You can only determine a mold using laboratory analysis though some experts can tell from the musty types of smell often produced by different types of molds. You should either remove or replace the insulation of your air ducts if it gets moldy. This is because it can’t be effectively cleaned.
Vermin (Insects and rodents)
It’s not surprising to find creatures inside your air ducts. This is because some of the debris creates a very comfortable breeding ground for insects. The warmth produced by your air ducts also attracts rodents that would want to breed.
You should always call a professional to clean your air ducts if you have rodents living within them. It’s really not wise to spray any insecticide or poison inside the air duct to kill the vermin. This is because you put your family at risk as air ducts control the cycle of air in the house. So you’ll probably breath in the very same poison or pesticide that you put in the air ducts.
Dust and debris
Air ducts often trapped a lot of things that are found in the air. These include dust, dander, hair and any other particles floating in your indoor air. All this substances eventually clog into your air ducts and can reduce its efficiency. It’s highly advisable to clean your air ducts once you notice this.
